As snow fell across most of New Jersey Sunday night, forecasters were calling for as much as 30 inches in some northern parts of the state, according to the latest update from the National Weather Service.

Portions of Morris and Warren counties were now forecasted to receive between 24 to 30 inches by the time the nor’easter passes the state late Tuesday.

Most other snow totals remained unchanged in North Jersey, but the Jersey Shore could see even less accumulating flakes as the precipitation will be more of a mix of rain and snow, the service stated.

Totals dropped in some areas from 3-4 inches to 2-3, and from 2-3 inches to 1-2 with the lowest amounts expected in coastal Ocean, Cape May and Atlantic counties.

However, flooding and high winds will still likely be a problem along the Jersey Shore, the service said.

Coastal flooding was expected at the Jersey Shore and a warning was in place for Monmouth, Middlesex, Ocean, Atlantic and Cape May counties with a costal flood advisory issued for Cumberland County.

Another addition to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service was a high wind warning for coastal Atlantic and Ocean counties.

Gusts between 40 to 50 mph were expected Monday along the coast with gusts of 35 to 45 mph expected inland, the service said. This would lead to power outages and dangerous driving conditions as the brunt of the storm hits the state.

Schools around the state have already started to announce closures and other schedule changes, with many switching to all-remote instruction.

The National Weather Service has placed nearly the entire state under a winter storm warning with 2 to 4 inches of snow expected on Sunday before a lull that lasts into early Monday.

The snow will likely be intense on Monday, with some areas seeing as much as 3 inches per hour, said Michael Priante, a meteorologist with WeatherWorks, a private weather forecasting company in Hackettstown.

Many New Jersey vaccination sites announced Sunday they were closing on Monday due to the storm.
